Group Psychotherapy
Group psychotherapy follows the same method and goals as individual psychotherapy, but the context provides more opportunities to get to know ourselves through our relationships with others. The caring and safe environment, guided by trust and mutual respect, facilitates a consolidated sense of security and belonging, reduces resistance to change and expands our capacity to deepen our interpersonal relationships. The group experience can strengthen a community spirit, foster the communication process and reduce interpersonal tensions. Perhaps the most notable benefit of group therapy is the change it brings to our behaviour outside the group, which results from greater self-awareness and confidence.

Embarking on this journey was the best investment in myself that I’ve ever made! Despite my fear and insecurity, I challenged myself to get out of my comfort zone. Through sharing and hearing the experiences shared by others in the group, I found the space to feel, and through those feelings I found respect, comfort, compassion, tenderness and, above all, acceptance. In this group, where I feel I belong, I was able to be myself without constraint or reservations. I’m eternally grateful.

It has been an enriching journey towards self-awareness, where I was challenged to look truthfully at myself and to distinguish what was genuine to me from what wasn’t. I’ve learned to respect and honour what I didn’t want to see or accept in myself. This was always with support, warmth and tenderness from the whole group. Particularly in times of real discomfort, my pain was soothed and I felt joy in overcoming my unease.

At a time in my life that I really needed to stop, create time for myself and look within, I started on my personal therapeutic path of self-discovery. With patience, sensitivity and a lot of care, it was suggested that I take this journey within a group. It was tough for me at first but, in this group, I found trust, support and acceptance to help me along the way. This has made the journey less lonely and more meaningful and enriching. This is not only because I have space and time to share my story, but because when I hear others sharing, I get in touch with other parts of myself – which would not be possible if I were alone. I’ve discovered so much about myself through this peaceful space where authenticity could flow naturally. Thank you for sharing this journey with me.

I felt a real sense of belonging with this group of people who came together with the common goal of developing self-awareness. One can only fully appreciate the experience through being there. I don’t have words to express all that this process has meant for me, but I want to highlight the importance of learning to trust myself and others, and to gradually shed the fear of being cast aside if I talk about my struggles. Each member of the group was there to listen and support me regardless of my “strengths” or “vulnerabilities”. I also realized that I’m not the only one to feel pain, that there were shared feelings between each member of the group, even if those feelings manifested themselves in different ways.
